Chris Williams is one of the managing owners of Studio 108, a commercial film and video production house in Richmond, Va. By combining years of theatrical experience in Chicago with a passion for filmmaking, he joined the regional and national field of advertising as a director and editor.
Based on the merits of an original screenplay written by Williams, his company Finest Hour Films acquired the film rights for Author Marc Miller's DARK CONSPIRACY series. His other original works, "KILLER DEAL" and "SOLITUDE" won multiple screenwriting awards from ASA, Cinequest, and Reader's Digest. Williams made his directorial debut with SOLITUDE, which was also the first film for Finest Hour Films. Critically acclaimed after premiering at the New York International Film Festival in 2004, the short film was picked up by +Entertainment for distribution and was marketed at the world's largest film market, the AFM.
With Studio 108, Williams has worked on award-winning productions with clients ranging from retailers and charities to government agencies. In fact, his TV spots have been featured during the 2004 presidential campaign, on NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw and on CNN and NPR. He has also directed professional crews nationwide, including feature film cinematographer Ward Russell.
With more than 10 years of experience in theater (directing and
performing), Williams has seamlessly entered the world of film
production. In the few short years Williams has been in Richmond, he
has directed, produced and edited more than 200 national, regional and
local TV spots. Williams has enjoyed success with every project he’s
been involved with and is confident his hands-on production experience
will be a huge asset to “SLICE.”
“I’m stoked about directing ‘Slice,’ says Williams. “My creative
collaborators and I are big fans of horror films like “FROM DUSK TILL
DAWN,” “EVIL DEAD,” “SHAUN OF THE DEAD,” "28 DAYS LATER," as well as
Romero’s pictures. “Slice” will stand with these classics and find a
place in the hearts of film fans everywhere. Not only are we going to
make a high-quality, entertaining horror film, but a profitable one as
well.”
“We also want to share the collaborative experience of filmmaking,” says Williams. “It’s my hope that by sharing our filmmaking and storytelling skills we’ll encourage others to tell stories of their own someday. To that end, Slice Pictures and Studio 108 will work closely with local film students. Students will have the opportunity to apprentice in whatever area of production his or her skills and interests dictate.”
Mark Mervis has worked extensively as a cinematographer in L.A. and on the East Coast. He received positive reviews and critical acclaim in Variety, Hollywood Reporter, and The New York Post magazine for his work as Director of Photography on “BILLY’S HOLLYWOOD SCREEN KISS” and “KILL THE MAN,” both official Sundance selections. His credits also include “AMY’S O,” and dozens of commercials and music videos for such clients as Volvo, Anheuser-Busch, and the alternative rock band (and Richmond-based) GWAR. His latest feature, a terrifying horror film titled “HELLBENT,” comes from the minds of writer/director Paul Etheredge-Ouzts and Joseph Wolf, the co-creator of such horror classics as "HALLOWEEN" and " A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET."
